Graceful Ignorance

Evidence of this can be seen in the quote found at the link above:

Potential Republican California governor nominee, Steve Pozner was quoted saying:

“Not everyone is destined for UC Berkeley,” he said, citing gang members at the San Jose school where he taught. “What happened to vocational education? Not everyone is going to end up in or even needs to go to college.”

These cuts are conscious, folks. Whenever people tell me “these budget cuts don’t make sense”, I think to myself, “yeah, for you maybe, but to capitalists who don’t need a ton of professional workers, they make perfect sense”.

Though I agree that die hard capitalists would advocate vocational training, I think it’s only fair to point out that capitalism in our country is dying. We’ve become the Athens of the modern world thanks to NAFTA and import almost all of our goods and since the government is now “bailing out” (really buying up) American manufactoring corporations like GM, our country is quickly becoming socialistic. Should this trend continue capitalsim will no longer be a problem because the government will do everything for us and the “land of opportunity” will cease to exist. Then what reasons will we have to cut education costs? What reasons will the government have to construct programs that not only hinder the education of thousands of children, but obliterate the learning process all together. I don’t know about you, but if this country decides to turn it’s back on the democratic principals that have made it the greatest country in the world and turn to a failed socialistic philosophy that hasn’t ever worked out, I want to be able to compete intellectually with the countries that have not only embraced democracy-but capitalism as well. Because I assure you, that’s where I will be living.
